Distilleria Numa

A story spanning over 120 years, a hardworking family, the millennia-old history of fertile lands, a small and lively inn where travelers refueled with simple, peasant-style dishes, fieldwork, an intuition for quality, and a woman-Generosa-and her homemade liqueur.

It is within this tapestry that Distilleria NUMA has its roots. Owned by the Pusceddu family, the distillery is deeply tied to Tarquinia, the city that gave Rome four of its kings: Tarquinius Priscus, Tarquinius Superbus, Servius Tullius and Numa Pompilius. It is located in the province of Viterbo, a land farmed since antiquity by Etruscan civilizations.

Generosa’s liqueur, served as a digestif, began winning over locals and travelers alike, becoming a local tradition. However, its recipe faded into legend until the mid-1990s, when Mario and Gianfranco Pusceddu, Generosa’s descendants, revived its memory. The brothers, already running a family agriturismo, established a liquor distillery, recreating ancient flavors through modern techniques, blending herbs from the Marta Valley-the same lands once cultivated by the Etruscans.

Today, the flavor profile of Generosa’s liqueur lives on in Amaro Tarquinia, one of Distilleria NUMA’s flagship products. Alongside it are other offerings, such as the award-winning NUMA brandy, grappas, gins, and spirits.

All these products share a passion for excellence-the same passion that, for over 120 years, drives daily innovation to deliver unforgettable flavors.
